Here are two great examples showing how effective wet-sanding is at restoring gelcoat, whether it’s lightly or heavily oxidized.

As a professional, I highly recommend wetsanding over compounding alone in most cases. While heavy compound can improve the surface, it often doesn't fully remove oxidation — especially in more severe cases. Wet-sanding, on the other hand, removes 100% of the oxidation, allowing the gelcoat to be fully restored to its original shine.
